Class number

Our books are classified using the Dewey decimal system and each book will have its own Class number (which is sometimes called a classmark) on the spine. Some useful classmarks to know include:Image of book spines and class numbers

  • 150 - Psychology
  • 301 - Sociology
  • 362 - Health and Social Care
  • 610.7 - Nursing
  • 612 - Anatomy and Physiology

When you search for books via the Library Catalogue, Library Search Online, you will always see a Dewey number to locate (unless it is an ebook in which case you can immediately click on the link).

Using the Library to find books

The Library has a huge range of textbook and ebook titles to meet your needs. Textbooks can be a great place to start your research, but remember that demand can be high, so you'll need to plan in advance.

Each of our libraries contains subject specific books and resources for the relevant courses taught there. These are suggested by your tutors and directly link to your courses and modules of study.
